I'm really curious as to what reasoning an author would have for that. Oh well.

in response to the pondering, i actually am alerted to one story on the list, and the author posted a note saying she had withdrawn herself from the awards and asked people not to vote for her--something along the lines of people sending her nasty PMs caused her to want to withdraw.

uncool.

If you are referring to the author of Bella and the Billionaire, she was mentioned on MoW already. Her actions weren't exactly nice or cool either, so I'd have to say that you reap what you sow. See Helena's post on that topic here.

Other people just don't want the recognition, I suppose. You also had the option to pull out if you felt your story was nom'd in the wrong category.

*EDIT: I need to add that randomly sending hate mail PM's is way uncool; i just wanted to pinpoint that B&tB's author pulled a lot in on herself.

I don't think it's B&tB. That story would not qualify for the Indies. Too many reviews.

She made mention of her own stories being nominated, but it may have been a rhetorical reference. *shrugs*

Yes, I actually am referring to the Author's Note posted by nashstheory (author of bella and the billionaire). I didn't read the other topic first or obviously I wouldn't have posted this in here--the topic was present in two threads, so it was easily missed. And Helena, you are right, too. Her story wasn't up for an Indie, but I didn't get to see the original author's note so I missed that. I can see where people would be upset with her actions of bribery and whatnot, but it's not like it would have even really worked. And even if it did, most readers would not just vote for a lemon---you can find lemons all over fanfic.

I agree that sending PM hates are wrong, but I also don't think people need to be so rude and speak to each other so harshly, no matter what. Sending hate mail over a story? People get too emotionally involved sometimes (as we has seen in reviews and such). In the end, it's just a story.

The above response was not a jab regarding double posting. I merely linked to the topic in the event that any others were interested in the issues that surrounded B&tB's AN, since it was posted in direct correlation with her issues with the Indies. Whether or not it would have worked isn't really what got people up in arms; a key piece of the Indies is that for these awards, everyone is (largely) on an even playing field. There are no Wide Awakes or The Submissives or Midnight Desires to compete with. A well read author promising lemons - which, although not rare, are heavily read and reviewed in this fandom - in exchange for wins for her friend rubbed a lot of other readers/authors the wrong way.

Regarding the short list for the indie noms:

According to the Indies Twitter, it should be posted in the next few days.

I get that. And those people should not have sent angry PMs. Although, a PM is better than a review.

The final noms are up.

I am slightly confused because I was originally advised that TBE was up for best AH/AU-Complete, but it's listed under Most Original Storyline. *shrugs*

see them here.

I thought that voting had already happened on these. What's up with the final nominations? Are we gonna have voting, final voting, and yes, that is my final answer voting?

So there are like several rounds until there is a clear winner in each category? That sounds kinda dumb. Maybe they should have planned this better... Then again, they've had problems since the get-go, correct?

Their plans for voting have been the same from the get go: accept any nominations, confirm that the stories meet the requirements, preliminary voting to narrow the lists down, final voting on the top 10 in each category.

Even though the plans have been the same, they're still having a shitton of problems...

Still think they could have planned it better. I mean, authors are pulling their own stuff & it sounds like they moved your story without even telling you, Ang. I thought that they were contacting the author to ask which category it belonged in, not choosing for themselves.
